Islamabad, February 6, 2013: Briefing the foreign media in connection with the Solidarity Day, Chairman Special Committee of the Parliament on Kashmir Maulana Fazlur Rahman has said that the struggle of Kashmiris was genuine. They are struggling for their right to self-determination. Therefore, India should stop inflicting atrocities on them and give them their right to self-determination. He said that the Kashmir issue was not a territorial dispute. It is a human problem, relating to the right of self-determination of 16 million Kashmiris, enshrined in the U.N. resolution on Kashmir. He said, the struggle in the Occupied Kashmir is indigenous, which changes its shape and form according to the circumstances. At the end of the last century, the Kashmiri took up arms. Now they are waging a peaceful struggle in which mass movement, involving hundreds of thousands of people, was staged.

The Chairman Kashmir Committee observed that India was using all possible means to crush the struggle of Kashmiris. Over 700,000 Indian security forces have been deployed in the occupied territory, where draconian laws have also been enforced, because of which the Indian troops are free to do anything. They have made the life of Kashmiris miserable. Neither their life nor honour, nor property is secure. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other international human rights organisations as well as Indian organizations and activists have confirmed the human rights violations perpetrated by the Indian security forces.

Maulana Fazlur Rahman said, Kashmir is a serious issue, which needs to resolve urgently. Its gravity has been acknowledged by Former US President Bill Clinton, President Obama and other world leaders. He said that the United Nations had accepted Pakistan a party to the dispute. We therefore, cannot be silent on the state terrorism unleashed against the Kashmiris and will continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris until the issue is resolved.

Syed Sumsam Ali S. Bukhari, Minister of State for Information, Dr. Attiya Inayatullah and Munir Khan Orakzai Members Kashmir Committee were also present at the briefing.
