Russian Ambassador Calls on Speaker, National Assembly

Islamabad; March 27, 2014: The Speaker has observed that Pakistan-Russian relations were becoming multifaceted and acquiring greater depth due to engagement of political hierarchies and business communities of both sides. He said that strengthening of parliamentary linkages would bring Pakistan and Russia, more closer. He said this while talking to Ambassador of Russia Mr. Alexey Yurievich Dedov who called on the Speaker in Parliament House, this afternoon.

The Speaker said that Pakistan considers Russia a valuable friend who has been partner in economic and infrastructure development in Pakistan. He said that constant engagement from either side has added depth to the existing relations. The Speaker said that he would always endeavour to strengthen the ties between the legislatures of the two countries. The Speaker informed the Ambassador that Pakistan-Russia Friendship group has been established in National assembly and interaction between parliamentarians through this forum could play an important role in creating better understanding between both the countries.

Recalling his recent interaction with his Russian Counterpart in Geneva, the Speaker said that cooperation and interaction at international forums could bring friendly parliamentarians more closer. The Speaker pointed out that power generation and oil exploration sectors were the strength of Russia, therefore both the countries could enter into joint ventures for mutual benefit. He also called for diversification of the existing collaboration between both the countries.

Ambassador of Russia Mr Alexey Yurievich Dedov thanked the Speaker for his kind words and said that his government also strongly desires to have congenial relations with Pakistan. He informed the Speaker that Russian legislature also keen to cement its ties with Parliament of Pakistan. He said that Russian and Pakistani business communities were in regular contact and has inked various agreements for mutual cooperation. He said that Russia would certainly help steer Pakistan out of the present energy crisis in the country. He also reiterated the invitation of Russian Speaker to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to visit Moscow.
