ENHANCING IT EXPORT VITAL FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY : STANDING  COMMITTEE ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TELECOMMUNICATION

DIGITALIZED PARLIAMENT TILL JANUARY 2023 ON CARD

Islamabad: 25th November 2021; MNA Mr. Al Khan Jadoon chaired the meeting of Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication in Parliament House Islamabad today. The committee stressed on the need of enhancing IT export and facilitating IT exporters as it would prove a catalyst for socio-economic development of the country. The Committee also unanimously stressed to tackle the challenge of issuance of Illegal sim and  it emphasized for enhancing capacity building of public institutions to ensure cyber security.
MNA Ms Monaza Hussain briefed the committee about salient features of  visit of the Parliamentary delegation under chairmanship of the Speaker National Assembly  to Azerbaijan last month. She talked about great  potential in the IT field in Azerbaijan and she raised concern over non-recognition of IT degrees in Azerbaijan.  The Committee unanimously decided to Call FBR, HEC and SBP representatives to seek detail of provision of facilities for IT exporter firm in the country.
While responding to briefing by Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the committee recommended for using multiple techniques to check the issues of issuance of illegal Mobile sims which have been a main factor in increasing cyber crimes in Pakistan. The committee was apprised by Chairman PTA that there is no space for door to door Mobile sims sale trends and on this issue almost 2900 Retailer have been bane. He also briefed the committee that since November 2020 175000 illegally issued Mobile sims and now there are 2600 illegally issued Mobile sims. He also informed that almost Live Fingerprint detection (LFT) was introduced to eliminate the use of silicon thumbs.

The committee stressed on keeping national interest and national perspective intact while formulation of laws. The member suggested that all rules be framed with due consideration of observation of public representatives. The Chair recommended a separate briefing on social media rules and also he stressed for taking public representatives on board in this regard.

While responding to briefing on National Cyber Security Policy 2021, the committee unanimously stressed on all concerned for taking extra care for building firewalls to secure data especially which is sensitive to national security and individuals privacy. The committee also emphasized on its implementation. The committee also recommended that Hackathon competition be held across the country to attract a pool of IT experts among the youth as Pakistani youth is blessed with all kinds of talent.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Ms.Javairia Zafar Aheer , Ms Kanwal Shauzab, Ms Nusrat Waheed, Ms. Aysha Rajab Ali, Ms. Naz Baloch, Syed Mehmood Shah, Ms Shameem Ara Panhhwar, Ms.Munaza Hussain, Mr.Mahesh Kumar Malani , Ms Maiza Hameed, Ms.Aysha Rajib Ali and Chairman PTA, Member IT and Legal, Representative of FIA and other high officers of Ministry  of IT and Telecommunication.
