NA Standing Committee on Human Rights meets

Lahore, August 29th 2016; 10th meeting of the Standing Committee on Human Rights was held today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Babar Nawaz Khan, MNA.

2.       The meeting started with the recitation from Holy Quran. After introduction, Hon. Chairman welcomed the participants. Then the Committee decided to proceed with the agenda item.

3.        Agenda item No i:  Confirmation of minutes of the meeting held on 22-07-2016. The Committee unanimously confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting held on 22.07.2016.

4.        Agenda item No ii: To examine the working of the Provincial Directorate of Human Rights at Lahore in order to improve the disposal of the Human Right cases.

The representative of Provincial Directorate of Human Rights, Lahore briefed the Committee about the working Human Rights Provincial Directorate. The Committee arose many questions and the representative responded positively. Then the Committee directed that all Home Secretary’s of the Provinces including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan to provide the detail of registered cases of Human Rights violation in their Directorates with updated status of remaining cases. The Committee suggested that basic rights should be aware the kids of our nation from primary level education and every province should be allocated maximum budget for this purpose. The Committee directed Provincial Directorate of all provinces including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan to give follow up their forwarded cases of Human Rights violation to police department.

5.         Agenda item No. iii:  Any other item with permission of the Chair.

      i.        The Committee also took up the kids kidnapping issue and decided to take up this issue in next meeting.

    ii.        With reference 9th meeting of the Standing Committee on Human Rights the Committee inquired the updates of the revision in existing laws pertaining to “Human Organ Transplant” and establishing one Human Right Court in every district of Pakistan. The Ministry of Human Rights apprised that they are working on it. Then the Committee extended 15 days more for preparation of this task.  

   iii.        The representative of IP3 briefed the Committee about required Jail Reforms as per International Laws and Treaties etc.

   iv.        The Committee directed the all Provincial, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Governments to provide modern equipments to the Police Department for making soft investigations of the offenders according to International standard.

6.        The Hon. MNAs/Members Begum Tahira Bukhari, Ms. Farhana Qamar, Ms. Surriya Asghar, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Ms. Amra Khan and Mr. Sajid Nawaz attended the meeting besides the Secretary, Ministry of Human Rights, Secretary, Human Rights and Minority Affairs  Punjab, Additional Secretary, Home Department Punjab, DIG & Acting Director General Prisons, Punjab,  Member, NCHR with their staff.
