Honourable Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq Calls for Greater Awareness, Early Detection and Equitable Access to Breast Cancer Care

Monday, 19th October, 2026
Islamabad, :The Honourable Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, on the occasion of International Breast Cancer Awareness Day, has called for a renewed national commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer, promoting early detection and ensuring timely, affordable and quality healthcare for women across the country.

The Honourable Speaker underscored that breast cancer is a significant public health challenge that affects not only women but also their families and communities. He emphasized that timely medical consultation, accurate information, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential to improving health outcomes and saving precious lives.

The Honourable Speaker observed that awareness must go beyond symbolic observance and translate into sustained public education, accessible screening and diagnostic facilities, and effective support for women living with breast cancer. He stressed that no woman should be compelled to delay medical care because of financial constraints, geographical barriers, social stigma or lack of awareness.

Emphasizing the role of Parliament in safeguarding public health and promoting the well-being of citizens, the Honourable Speaker stated that concerted efforts by federal and provincial governments, healthcare institutions, parliamentarians, civil society, the media and community organizations are essential to strengthening breast cancer awareness and improving access to treatment. He also highlighted the importance of empowering women with reliable health information and encouraging families to support women in seeking timely medical advice without fear or hesitation.

The Honourable Speaker further called for special attention to women living in rural, remote and underserved areas, where access to specialized healthcare services may be limited. He emphasized the need to strengthen preventive healthcare, improve referral mechanisms, expand access to diagnostic services and ensure compassionate support for patients and their families throughout the treatment and recovery process.

He also paid tribute to healthcare professionals, researchers, community health workers, volunteers and organizations working tirelessly to raise awareness, facilitate early diagnosis and support those affected by the disease. He urged the media and educational institutions to play a proactive role in dispelling misconceptions and promoting responsible, evidence-based public awareness.

On this occasion, the Honourable Speaker appealed to women and families across Pakistan to take breast health seriously, remain attentive to unusual changes and seek professional medical advice promptly whenever concerns arise. He emphasized that breast cancer awareness is a shared responsibility and that collective action, informed choices and accessible healthcare can make a meaningful difference.

The Honourable Speaker reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to supporting constructive dialogue, parliamentary engagement and initiatives aimed at improving women's health, strengthening public awareness and advancing equitable access to quality healthcare.

“Let us transform awareness into action, replace stigma with understanding, and ensure that every woman in Pakistan has the knowledge, support and opportunity to seek timely diagnosis and quality treatment with dignity and confidence.”
