Message from the Secretary of the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) of the National Assembly, Dr. Shahida Rehmani, MNA, on the commencement of Breast Cancer Awareness Month of October 2026

Thursday, 1st October, 2026
"As we begin Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Women Parliamentary Caucus of the National Assembly reaffirms its commitment to raising awareness, promoting prevention and early detection, and advocating for accessible and quality healthcare for women across Pakistan.

Breast cancer remains one of the most significant health challenges affecting women. Yet, with greater awareness, timely screening, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, many lives can be saved. Every woman should have access to accurate information, timely medical consultation, screening facilities and affordable treatment, regardless of where she lives or her socioeconomic circumstances.

This month is an opportunity not only to spread awareness, but also to encourage women to take their health seriously, as awareness can lead to early action, and early action can save lives. We urge women to be attentive to changes in their bodies and to seek medical advice promptly when they have concerns. Families and communities also have an important role to play in creating an environment where women can discuss their health openly and seek care without fear or stigma.

WPC recognises that addressing breast cancer requires a comprehensive approach—from awareness and prevention to screening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and psychosocial support. It also requires stronger coordination between Parliament, government institutions, healthcare providers, civil society and development partners.

As parliamentarians, we have a responsibility to ensure that women's health remains firmly on the policy and legislative agenda. The Caucus will continue to support initiatives that strengthen women's access to healthcare, promote evidence-based policies and improve health outcomes for women, particularly those in underserved and remote communities.

On this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I call upon women, families, healthcare professionals, institutions and communities across Pakistan to join this effort."
