ISLAMABAD, September 14, 2026: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that promoting democratic values and strengthening democratic institutions are essential to putting Pakistan on the path to sustainable development, stressing that a strong democratic system is the guarantee of a prosperous and stable future.
In a message marking the International Day of Democracy, observed annually on September 15 under the auspices of the United Nations, the Speaker said democracy was fundamentally about ensuring people’s participation in governance and was based on freedom, equality and collective decision-making.
He said the strength of democracy depended on respect for the public mandate, transparency in national affairs, accountability and the rule of law. He paid tribute to political leaders and workers who had made sacrifices for the restoration of democracy and the strengthening of democratic institutions in Pakistan, saying the country’s history was marked by a sustained struggle for democratic governance, constitutional supremacy and popular representation.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq described Parliament as a cornerstone of the democratic system and the institution that represents the aspirations of the people. He said elected representatives had a responsibility to legislate for public welfare and address issues confronting citizens.
“Differences of opinion are the beauty of democracy,” he said, adding that disagreements must be resolved through tolerance, dialogue and consultation rather than confrontation.
The Speaker stressed that elections alone could not ensure an effective democratic system. Meaningful and continuous public participation, together with respect for the views of all segments of society in decision-making, was equally important. He said the effective participation of women, youth, minorities and other sections of society in political and parliamentary processes strengthened democracy and made democratic institutions more representative.
He said Parliament served as an important bridge between the people and state institutions, while the National Assembly was playing an active role in addressing public concerns through legislation and parliamentary oversight. Parliamentary committees, caucuses and consultative forums provided lawmakers with opportunities to deliberate on important national and public issues and work towards consensus.
Highlighting the role of young people, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said the youth were the key to Pakistan’s bright future. He stressed the need to familiarise them with the parliamentary system, constitutional principles and democratic practices and to provide them with meaningful opportunities to participate in national decision-making.
The Speaker said International Day of Democracy was an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, upholding the constitutional order and promoting political dialogue. He urged all political forces to rise above their differences and work together to address issues of national importance and resolve the problems faced by the people.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, in his message, said democracy guaranteed the people’s right to govern themselves and protected their political freedoms.
He said a strong Parliament, supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law were fundamental requirements of a democratic society. Strengthening democratic institutions, he added, was indispensable for Pakistan’s development, prosperity and stability.
The Deputy Speaker paid tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, describing their struggles and sacrifices for the restoration and consolidation of democracy in Pakistan as unforgettable.
He stressed that political differences should be resolved through dialogue, consultation and parliamentary mechanisms, rather than confrontation. He also called for continued efforts to promote democratic values, address public grievances and advance the country’s development.

اسلام آباد، 14 ستمبر 2026: اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی سردار ایاز صادق نے کہا ہے کہ جمہوریت نظامِ حکومت میں عوامی شمولیت کا نام ہے۔ جمہوریت آزادی، مساوات اور اجتماعی فیصلہ سازی پر مبنی نظامِ حکومت ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ جمہوری نظام کی مضبوطی کا انحصار عوامی رائے کا احترام، قومی معاملات میں شفافیت، جوابدہی اور قانون کی حکمرانی کو یقینی بنانے پر ہے۔ ان خیالات کا اظہار انہوں نے عالمی یومِ جمہوریت کے موقع پر کیا جو ہر سال 15 ستمبر کو اقوام متحدہ کے زیر اہتمام دنیا بھر میں منایا جاتا ہے۔ اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی نے ملک میں جمہوریت کی بحالی اور جمہوری اداروں کے استحکام کے لیے قربانیاں دینے والے قائدین اور سیاسی کارکنوں کو خراجِ تحسین پیش کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ پاکستان کی تاریخ جمہوری جدوجہد، آئینی بالادستی اور عوامی نمائندگی کے لیے دی جانے والی قربانیوں سے بھری پڑی ہے۔
اسپیکر سردار ایاز صادق نے کہا کہ پارلیمان جمہوری نظام کا بنیادی ستون اور عوامی امنگوں کا نمائندہ ادارہ ہے، جہاں عوام کے منتخب نمائندے عوام کی فلاح و بہبود کے لیے قانون سازی کرتے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اختلافِ رائے جمہوریت کا حسن ہے، تاہم اختلافات کو برداشت، مکالمے اور مشاورت کے ذریعے حل کرنا جمہوری اقدار کے فروغ کے لیے ضروری ہے۔
اسپیکر سردار ایاز صادق نے کہا کہ ملک میں مؤثر جمہوری نظام کے لیے صرف انتخابی عمل کافی نہیں بلکہ عوام کی مسلسل اور بامعنی شرکت اور فیصلہ سازی میں معاشرے کے تمام طبقات کی رائے کا احترام ضروری ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ خواتین، نوجوانوں، اقلیتوں اور معاشرے کے دیگر طبقات کی سیاسی اور پارلیمانی عمل میں مؤثر شمولیت جمہوریت کو مضبوط بناتی ہے۔
اسپیکر سردار ایاز صادق نے کہا کہ پارلیمان عوام اور ریاستی اداروں کے درمیان مؤثر رابطے کا اہم ذریعہ ہے اور قومی اسمبلی عوامی مسائل کو قانون سازی اور پارلیمانی نگرانی کے ذریعے حل کرنے میں فعال کردار ادا کر رہی ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ پارلیمانی کمیٹیوں، پارلیمانی کاکسز اور مختلف مشاورتی پلیٹ فارمز کے ذریعے ارکانِ پارلیمان کو اہم قومی و عوامی امور پر مکالمے اور مشترکہ غور و خوض کے مواقع فراہم کیے جاتے ہیں۔
اسپیکر سردار ایاز صادق نے کہا کہ نوجوان نسل پاکستان کے روشن مستقبل کی ضمانت ہے۔ نوجوانوں کو پارلیمانی نظام، آئینی اقدار اور جمہوری طریقہ کار سے روشناس کرانا اور انہیں قومی فیصلہ سازی کے عمل میں مؤثر کردار کے مواقع فراہم کرنا ناگزیر ہے۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ قومی اسمبلی میں یونیورسٹی کے طلبہ کو قانون سازی اور پارلیمانی امور سے روشناس کرانے کے لیے یوتھ انٹرن شپ پروگرام کا اجراء کیا گیا ہے۔
اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی نے کہا کہ آج کا دن ہمیں جمہوری اداروں کو مستحکم، آئینی نظام کو مضبوط اور سیاسی مکالمے کو فروغ دینے کے عزم کا اعادہ کرنے کا موقع فراہم کرتا ہے۔ انہوں نے تمام سیاسی قوتوں کو باہمی اختلافات کو بھلا کر قومی اہمیت کے حامل معاملات اور عوام کو درپیش مسائل کے حل کے لیے کردار ادا کرنے کی ضرورت پر زور دیا۔
اس موقع پر ڈپٹی اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی سید غلام مصطفیٰ شاہ نے کہا کہ جمہوریت عوام کے حقِ حکمرانی اور سیاسی آزادیوں کے تحفظ کی ضامن ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ مضبوط پارلیمان، آئین کی بالادستی اور قانون کی حکمرانی جمہوری معاشرے کی بنیادی ضروریات ہیں اور ملک کی ترقی، خوشحالی اور استحکام کے لیے جمہوری اداروں کو مضبوط بنانا ناگزیر ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ قائدِ عوام شہید ذوالفقار علی بھٹو اور شہید محترمہ بے نظیر بھٹو نے ملک میں جمہوریت کی بحالی اور استحکام کے لیے جو جدوجہد کی اور قربانیاں دیں، وہ ناقابلِ فراموش ہیں۔
ڈپٹی اسپیکر نے کہا کہ سیاسی اختلافات کو مکالمے، مشاورت اور پارلیمانی طریقۂ کار کے ذریعے حل کرنا جمہوری نظام کی مضبوطی کے لیے ضروری ہے۔ انہوں نے عوامی مسائل کے حل اور ملکی ترقی کے لیے جمہوری اقدار کو فروغ دینے کی ضرورت پر زور دیا۔
