Standing Committee on the Railways meets

Islamabad, September 07, 2026: A requisitioned 18th meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Railways was held today at the Parliament House, Islamabad. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Ramesh Lal, MNA, in the absence of the Chairman, in accordance with sub-rule (2) of Rule 216 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. 
 
2.The Committee reviewed the implementation status of its previous recommendations and examined the compliance report on the recommendations made during its meeting held on 2 July 2026. The Committee also conducted a comprehensive review of the proposed upgradation of railway stations in the Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Sukkur, Karachi and Quetta Divisions in future. The Committee was further briefed on the proposed upgradation of railway tracks.
 
3.The Committee was briefed on the proposed restructuring plan, strategic priorities, budgetary allocations, expenditure plans, performance targets and the overall roadmap. The Secretary, Pakistan Railways, briefed the Committee in detail and responded to the queries raised by the Honorable Members.  The Committee expressed its displeasure and reservations over the absence of the Minister for Railways and directed the Ministry to ensure the Minister’s attendance at the next meeting so that the proceedings could be made more meaningful and beneficial. 
 
4.The meeting was attended by MNAs Mr. Ibrar Ahmed, Mr. Waseem Qadir, Mr. Muhammad Numan, Syeda Amna Batool, Mr. Zulfiqar Bachani, Dr. Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto, Mr. Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui, and Mr. Muhammad Ilyas Choudhary. The Secretary, Ministry of Railways, Secretary, Pakistan Railways Board, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Railways, Inspector General Police, Pakistan Railways, along with other senior officers and officials of the Ministry, and the Pakistan Railways, also attended the meeting.
