Islamabad, the 12th August, 2026: The Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges expressed grave concern over the circulation of fake appointment/offer letter, issued in the name of Abdul Wajid, falsely attributed to the National Assembly Secretariat on various social media platforms. The Committee directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to further investigate the matter and submit its detailed report in the next meeting of the Committee.
2. The 17th meeting of the Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges was convened today at the Parliament House, Islamabad, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Muhammad Afzal, MNA.
3. The Committee considered the matter of circulation of fake appointment/offer letter, issued in the name of Abdul Wajid, falsely attributed to the National Assembly Secretariat on various social media platforms. The Additional Director General, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) informed the Committee that the accused, Abdul Wajid, had been arrested and produced before the learned court, where his physical remand was obtained for the purpose of investigation. During interrogation, the accused admitted that he had prepared fake National Assembly identity cards bearing his name and a fake appointment letter showing himself as Assistant Director, National Assembly of Pakistan. Moreover, the mobile phone and laptop of the accused were taken into possession under a proper seizure memo for examination and forensic analysis. After deliberations, the Committee directed the FIA to further investigate the matter and submit its detailed report in the next meeting of the Committee.
4. The Committee expressed concerns over the non-attendance of meeting by Mr. Jawad ul Hassan, Metropolitan Officer (Regulation), Metropolitan Corporation, Lahore and directed that the said officer be summoned in the next meeting of the Committee.
5. The Committee considered the Question of Privilege No. 71 moved by Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, MNA against Mr. Imtiaz Ali Shah, ex-Director General, Solid Waste Management Board. The Mover pointed out that the ex-Director General had not obtained written leave from the Committee for his non-attendance. Consequently, the Committee decided to summon the said officer in its next meeting.
6. The Committee considered the amendments moved by Dr. Nafisa Shah, MNA/Mover in rule
295, 296, 30, 31 and rule 205 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. After detailed deliberation, discussion and taking opinion/views from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Law and Justice recommended that the proposed amendments in rule 295, 296 and rule 205 may not be passed whereas amendments proposed in rule 30 and 31 may be passed.
7. The Committee also considered the amendments moved by Ms. Aliya Kamran, MNA in rule 44 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. After detailed deliberation, discussion and taking opinion/views from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Law and Justice recommended that the proposed amendments in rule 44 may not be passed.
8. The Committee considered the amendments in rule 118, 119 and omission of rule 234A in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. After discussion, the Committee recommended that the amendment in rule 118 may be passed with amendments and rule 234A may be omitted as proposed. Whereas, the Committee decided to defer the proposed amendment in rule 119 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007 till its next meeting.
9. Due to the non-availability of Mover, the Committee decided to defer the Questions of Privilege given by Makhdoom Syed Sami ul Hassan Gillani, MNA/Mover till its next meeting.
10. Furthermore, the Committee adopted the report of the Sub-Committee appointed under the convenership of Mr. Azhar Qayyum Nahra, MNA.
11. The meeting was attended by MNAs: Ch. Naseer Ahmed Abbas, Mr. Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Mr. Waseem Qadir, Mr. Azhar Qayyum Nahra, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, Ms. Shagufta Jummani, Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, Mr. Sanjay Perwani, Ms. Naeema Kishwer Khan and Ch.Muhammad Shahbaz Babar (virtually). Ms. Aliya Kamran, MNA/Mover and Dr. Nafisa Shah, MNA/Mover also attended the meeting. The Hon’ble Minister for Parliamentary Affairs (Dr. Tariq Fazal Ch.) was also present in the meeting.
12. The senior officers from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) also attended the meeting.
