Standing Committee on Law and Justice meets

Monday, 13th July, 2026

Islamabad, 13th July, 2026, the 16th meeting of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice was held today under the Chairmanship of Ch. Mahmood Bashir Virk, MNA, at 02:00 P.M. in the Committee Room No 7, 4th Floor, Parliament House, Islamabad.

2.     The meeting commenced with the recitation from the Holy Quran. The minutes of the previous meeting, held on 17th February, 2025, were confirmed by the Committee, and Agenda Item No. 2 was deferred.

3.    The Committee considered the Bill, The Alternative Dispute Resolution (Amendment) Bill, 2026" (Government Bill); 3. During the deliberations, the Ministry explained that the proposed amendments constituted a lawful and constitutionally permissible exercise of delegated legislative authority within the parameters prescribed by Parliament. The Committee, however, directed the Ministry to submit a comprehensive report, in accordance with its earlier directions, and to make a detailed presentation on the implementation and performance of the existing law, highlighting the practical experience, shortcomings, and the necessity for the proposed amendments. At the request of the Ministry, the Committee deferred further consideration of the Bill to its next meeting.

4.     Hon. Members/MNAs Ms. Saira Tara (at Zoom), Ms. Mah Jabeen Khan Abbasi (at Zoom), Dr. Nafisa Shah, Syed Hafeezuddin, Ms. Aliya Kamran, Ms. Kiran Haider, Syed Ibrar Ali Shah and Secretary, Ministry of Law and Justice, officers from the Ministry of Law and Justice, along with relevant staff attended the meeting.
