Islamabad: A meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries and Production was held today under the Chairmanship of Syed Hafeezuddin, MNA, during which various matters were discussed in detail. The Committee voiced grave concern about the continued non-appearance of the K-Electric's CEO. This unhappiness was expressed as the panel revisited its earlier recommendations, which included a detailed report on the electricity tariff and full details of the amount being recovered from PSM residents since Pakistan Steel Mills' closure. Further, the Committee inquired about the action on its previous recommendation regarding outstanding payment of customers to Proton Car Company; the representative of the Proton Car Company informed the Committee that there were a total of 864 affected customers, out of which 816 customers have been accommodated by returning their amount of 1.1 billion out of 1.18 billion in rupees. He said that 93% has been returned. The rest of the customers, 48 in number, are being contacted to return their sum of money. This will be taken care of soon. The Committee appreciated the company for returning outstanding money to its customers. In addition, the Committee observed that a subsidy of Rs. 80,000 per unit is being given for an Electric Vehicle (EV) Bike across the Country, during the discussion of the EV policy. Therefore, the Committee appointed a Sub-Committee under the Convenorship of Dr. Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, MNA, to investigate the subsidy given to manufacturers and companies operating in the country in connection of Motor Bike.
