The Standing Committee on Industries and Production, in its meeting, discussed and scrutinized the budgetary proposals related to the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the financial year 2026-2027 of the Ministry of Industries and Production. During the discussion, the Committee noted that the cost of the projects had been doubled, which differed from the actual amount proposed in their PC-I, whereupon the Committee, directed the Ministry to provide the report on the projects, escalating the cost due to delayed, these projects were the Establishment of 132 KV Grid Station at Bin Qasim Industrial Park (BQIP), Karachi; Establishment of High Tensile Sheet Metal Dies Manufacturing and Titanium Coating Setup at KTDMC, Karachi; Establishment of Hub Special Economic Zone, Lasbela (LIEDA, GOB); Industrial Designing & Automation Centers at Karachi, Lahore and Sialkot (TUSDEC); Acquisition of Land for Establishment of SME Facilitation Centers at Various Locations (SMEDA), Development of Block-A (500 acres) of Phase1 (1500 acres) of the Karachi Industrial Park (Federal SEZ) on Approx. 6400 Acres of Pakistan Steel Mills Land, Karachi (PIDC); and 1000 Industrial Stitching Unit (Phase-II) (SMEDA).
The Committee also recommended to stop further release of funds on these projects till satisfaction of the Committee.
The Committee also sought a detailed report on monitoring mechanism of PSDP projects from the Ministry of Planning & Development and Finance Division, indicating actual cost had been proposed in PC-I, factors and reasons escalated the cost of projects. The Committee deferred briefing on the remaining PSDP projects, However, approved the projects of Product Development Center for Composite Based Sports Goods, Sialkot (SMEDA); Support Center for dental and surgical equipment (SCDS), Sialkot (TUESDEC); and Strengthening of Engineering Industry, (EDB).
While the Committee took the agenda related to Capacitor Manufacturers Association, the Committee after detailed deliberations, decided that the Engineering Development Board (EDB) may listen the view points of both (M/s Yunus Electronics Pak (pvt.) Ltd, Gujrat) and (M/s K-caps (Pvt.) Ltd.) on the matters and report to the Committee.
The MNAs namely Mr. Shahid Usman, Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, Mr. Abdul Hakeem Baloch, Ms. Naz Baloch, Dr. Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, and the Secretary M/o Industries & Production, besides other senior officials of the ministry and its attached departments, attended the meeting.
