Na Standing Committees Elect Their Chairs, Na Advisor (Legislation) Conducts Election To The Standing Committee Chairs

Islamabad June 26, 2024: Six Standing Committees of the National Assembly namely Foreign Affairs, National Health Regulations, Services & Coordination, Communications, Maritime Affairs, Finance & Revenue and Water Resources elected their Chairpersons in their maiden meetings held today in Parliament House, Islamabad. The meetings were attended by Members of the respective Standing Committees and Chief Whips of the PML(N), PPPP and SIC.
The elections were conducted by Advisor (Legislation) Mr. Muhammad Mushtaq and Additional Secretary (Committees) Syed Jawad Murtaza Naqvi.
The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs unanimously elected Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar as its chairperson. Her name was proposed by Ms. Ayesha Nazir, MNA and seconded by all the members of the Committee, whereas the Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination unanimously elected Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, MNA as its chairman. His candidature was proposed by Mr. Muhammad Shahbaz Baber, MNA and seconded by all the members of the Committee.
The Standing Committees on Communications and Maritime Affairs unanimously elected Mr. Ijaz Hussain Jhakrani, MNA and Mr. Abdul Qadir Patel, MNAs as their chairperson, respectively in their separate meetings. Their names were proposed respectively by MNAs Mr. Nazir Ahmad Bhugio and Mr. Khurrum Munawar Munj and seconded by all the members of the Committees.
The Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue unanimously elected Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA as its chairman. His candidature was proposed by Dr. Nafeesa Shah, MNA. Whereas, the Standing Committee on Water Resources unanimously elected Mr. Khalid Hussain Magsi, MNA as its chairman. His name was proposed by Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan, MNA. Candidature of both the Chairmen was supported by all the members of the respective committees.
After conducting the elections, both the officers conveyed congratulation on behalf of Hon. Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Secretariat and assured their all-out support in discharge of their official responsibilities.
After the elections, the chairs assumed their seats and thanked their fellow colleagues for reposing confidence in their leadership by electing them the chairpersons of the Standing Committees. They hoped that with the concerted efforts of the Committee Members, the committees would aptly play their role of parliamentary oversight on executive.
