SPOKESMAN NA HAS CLARIFIED THE MEDIA REPORTS REGARDING THE PRESS CONFERENCE OF LEADER OF OPPOSITION
Islamabad October 30, 2009: The Spokesman NA has clarified the media reports regarding the press conference of Leader of Opposition in which he discussed matters related to the composition of Standing Committee on Law and Justice and withdrawal of his application that was submitted to the Speaker National Assembly.
The Spokesman said that the application about the composition of the standing Committee on Law and Justice was submitted in the secretariat by Leader of the Opposition addressed to the Speaker National Assembly on the afternoon of 28th October, 2009, when the Madam Speaker was at Karachi. However, the application was withdrawn today before it was place before the Speaker for consideration.
The Spokesman has further said that the members of the sub-committee are elected by the house. However the house has authorized the Madam Speaker to make changes as and when needed. Majority of the Standing Committee members of the PML(N) are four whereas PPPP has 8 members and this issue has never been raised by the opposition.
The Spokesman said that one fails to understand as why this issue was raised at this stage and was brought to the press whereas it could been settled through contacting the Madam Speaker in her office.

Meeting of Security Arrangements for the Joint Session of the Parliament |
MEETING OF SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE JOINT SESSION OF THE PARLIAMENT
Islamabad: October 22, 2009: Dr. Zeheer-ud-Din Babar, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs has said
that security of the Parliament House was of paramount importance and lapses in this regard were not acceptable. He said this while presiding over a meeting of Security Arrangements for the Joint Session of the Parliament that will be held on 26th October, 2009 in the Parliament House.
The Minister directed the Islamabad Police, CDA and National Assembly security staff to ensure better coordination for appropriate security arrangements. He also directed the CDA to make arrangements for beautification of the roads leading from Airport to the Parliament House. Expressing concern over the security arrangements, the Minister said that there were many loopholes in security of the Parliament House and Lodges and their removal was urgently needed. He assured the security agencies of the provision of funds and equipments.
The meeting was briefed by the Additional Secretary Ministry of Interior, Chairman, CDA, Chief Commissioner ICT, DIG Security and AIG Police Islamabad.
The meeting decided to increase the strength of the security staff, update the security gadgets, improve the screening and search of the vehicles and usage of Sniffer dogs at all entries and vulnerable points.
The meeting was also attended by Secretary NA, Karamat Hussain Niazi and Special Secretary Senate, Iftikharullah Babar.

Islamabad, August 10, 2009: A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Board of Governors of
Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services was held on 10th August, 2009 in the Parliament House under the convenership of Dr. Zaheer-ud-Din Babar Awan, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs to examine and frame rules for recruitment, conditions of service, appointments, leave rules, medical rules and organizational structure of the PIPS.
The Committee thoroughly examined the agenda and emphasized that recruitment rules and structure of different trainings/research organizations may be provided to the Members as a reference for framing the rules for PIPS to discuss in next meeting.
While discussing the recruitments rules, it was decided by the Sub-Committee that being stake holders of the PIPS the Speakers or Deputy Speakers of Provincial Assemblies may also be invited as special invitee in its next meeting to get their views before framing rules.

Arrangements for Joint Session of the Parliament Discussed |
ARRANGEMENTS FOR JOINT SESSION OF THE PARLIAMENT DISCUSSED
Islamabad March 27, 2009: A meeting was held in the Parliament House to review the arrangements of the Joint Session of the Parliament to be held tomorrow. The Additional Secretary National Assembly Muhammad Ishtiaq Khan presided over the meeting.
Arrangements regarding seating, security and other allied matter were discussed in the meeting. The Additional Secretary directed all officers concerned to maintain close liaison between them in order to avoid any shortcomings. He also directed the officers to remain at their designated duty point from the arrival of the guests till the conclusion of the Joint Session.
The Additional Secretary (A), who is overall Incharge of the arrangements, informed that National Assembly Secretariat has made elaborate preparations for the Session. Heads of the Constitutional Departments, Dignitaries and Advisors to the Prime Minister holding the status of Ministers and Ministers of State, Provincial Governors, Chief Ministers and Speakers, President, Prime Minister and Speaker AJ&K, Services Chiefs, Ambassadors and Representatives of all the diplomatic missions based in Islamabad, Federal Secretaries, Heads of the Autonomous and Semi Autonomous Organizations and Foreign and Local Electronic and Print Media Personnel have been invited to witness the occasion. He informed that invitations cards have been dispatched to the guests and arrangements have been carried out with precision keeping in view the importance of the event.
It was decided that the entry into the precincts of the Parliament House will be restricted on 28th March, 2009 and entry will only be through special invitation cards issued by the National Assembly Secretariat. It was also decided that General public and guests of the parliamentarians will not be issued invitation cards due to limited numbers of seats in the National Assembly Hall.
It was also decided that guests should be advised to bring their cards with them and park their vehicles at the designated parking areas in the precincts of Parliament House. The guest holding green parking stickers will enter from iron gate up to Gate no.1 and park their vehicles in the parking in front of Parliament House, whereas guest holding red car park stickers are advised to enter from Iron Gate adjacent to Supreme court Building, park their vehicles in the parking lot on the lateral side of the Parliament House and proceed to gate no.5 for entry into Parliament House.
The meeting was attended by officers of the National Assembly Secretariat, Capital Development Authority, Islamabad Capital Police and other concerned departments.
