Women MPs Assigned Oversight of Maintenance and Uplift of Parliament Building

Islamabad March 26, 2014: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq chaired maiden meeting of the Committee to Oversee the Parliament Building Maintenance and Uplift, in Parliament House, this afternoon. The meeting was attended by Members of the Committee, Special Secretary (A) National Assembly Secretariat and Officers of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). 

The Speaker said that the pitiable cleanliness and maintenance of the Parliament House by the CDA has necessitated constitution of this Committee. He said that despite allocation of substantial budgetary allocation for the purpose, CDA has not been able to properly maintain the premises. He asked the Members to conduct visits to different parts of the Parliament House and suggest measures for proper cleanliness and maintenance of the Parliament Building, infrastructure and facilities within its precincts.

The Members thanked the Speaker for assigning them the task and assured him that they would try to amicably fulfill their responsibilities.

As per ToRs, the Committee has been assigned the task to inspect the Parliament House on weekly basis and submit report on status of cleanliness and maintenance of the building, infrastructure, lawns, lounges, library, cafeteria, staff canteen, car parking and security of the Parliament House.

The Committee comprises of MNAs Ms. Nafeesa Khattak, Ms. Seema Mohiuddin, Ms. Rida Khan, Ms. Saman Sultana Jafri, Ms. Asiya Nasir, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatimi, Ms. Farzana Qamar, Ms. Asiya Naz Tanoli, MRs. Shahida Rehmani, Ms. Tahira Aurangzeb, MS. Romina Khurshid Alam and Sajida Begum.
