NA Standing Committees on Parliamentary Affairs meets

Islamabad; November 22, 2017: The Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs met today under the Chairpersonship of Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal, MNA to discuss the proposed agenda.

Mr. Shahid Ahmed Sandhu, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs briefed the Committee about the Government assurances of National Assembly and Senate and said that it is the responsibility of the Committee to process government assurances, obtains implementation status on the government assurances and maintains records of pending and disposed off government assurances. He also informed the Committee that since 2013, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs has given total 152 assurances on behalf of various ministries/departments/organization including Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. It was informed that out of 152 assurances, only 6 Government assurances relate to Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and no assurances are pending pertaining to this Ministry.

Additional Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) briefed the Committee regarding “The Election Act, 2017” and delimitation process. It was informed that ECP shall constitute a Delimitation Committee for each province consists of not less than 3 officers of ECP, one of them shall be designated as convener and that Committee shall prepare draft proposals for delimitation of constituencies of National Assembly / Provincial Assembly of its province. It was also informed that separate Delimitation Committee shall be constituted for ICT & Tribal Areas which shall prepare draft proposals for delimitation of constituencies of National Assembly from these areas.

The Acting Chairman, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) briefed the Committee about the mismanagement and delay / cancellation of flights and problems being faced by the parliamentarians. The Committee expressed grave annoyance over the poor performance of PIA and directed the management to take concentrated measures to improve the existing deteriorated situation of PIA.                                                                                                                           

Malik Ihtebar Khan, Sheikh Muhammad Akram, Mian Tariq Mehmood, Mr. Rasheed Ahmad Khan, Ms. Shazia Mubashar, Dr. Shazia Sobia and Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak MNAs attended the meeting. The meeting was also attended by senior officers of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Pakistan International Airline (PIA).
