Islamabad, 15th May, 2017: A meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence met today in Committee Room of old PIPS, Parliament Lodges, Islamabad, under the Chairmanship of Shaikh Rohale Asghar, MNA. The Committee considered “The National University of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2016” at length. The Committee also heard the viewpoint of Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, MNA (mover of the Bill) over the proposed amendments in the said Bill. While briefing the Committee, she said that it is imperative for the  National University of Medical Sciences being a University of Medical education in the public sector should also submit to the oversight and guidance role of the PMDC. The Executive Director of HEC and President of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) told the Committee that the oversight role is clearly defined in their respective ordinances and did not support the proposed amendments in the Bill. After detailed deliberations the Committee unanimously disapproved the proposed amendments in the said Bill.

The Committee further directed the Ministry of Defence to arrange briefing on the current situation at Chaman border, LOC and challenged the death sentence of Kulbhushan Jadhav before the International Court of Justice by India.

Bhandara, Sardar Muhammad Shafqat Hayat Khan, Mr. Saeed Ahmed Khan Manais, Syed Mustafa Mehmud, Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar, Mr. Sanjay Perwani, Ms. Kishwer Zehra and Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Mover of the Bill and Officers/Officials of the Ministry
