NA Standing Committee on Communications meets
Monday, 27th February, 2017

The 54th meeting of the Standing Committee on Communications held today in the Committee Room of National Highway Authority (NHA) Headquarters, 27-Muave Area, G-9/1, Islamabad, to consider the agenda items i.e) land compensation issues (Shorkot – Garhmahraja Bridge, Lowari Tunnel access Road, Roads of District Kohistan); Trauma Centre at Khanozai (N-50 Road); Karachi Northern Bypass and WAPDA Poles on RoW, Relocation of utilities. The Meeting was presided over by Mr. Muhammad Muzammil Qureshi, MNA.

2.         The Secretary, M/o Communications/Chairman (NHA) informed the Committee that almost 95 % payment have been made to the claimants of Shorkot – Garhmahraja Bridge, Lowari Tunnel and Khuwakhela – Bisham (N-90) District Kohistan. Some effectees filed references in the Court for enhancement of compensation award and not willing to take payments. Due to inheritance matters, some claims are pending before revenue authorities. A few remaining claims will be paid on posting of Land Acquisition Collector (LAC). The Committee strongly recommended to the Government of Punjab for posting of LAC.

3.         The Chairman (NHA) also briefed the Committee that Executive Board has granted in principal approval for establishing nine Emergency Response Center (Trauma Centers), two at N-50, four at N-25 and three at N-85. This facility is extended by NHA to provide rescue, relief and first aid in remote areas in case of any road accident happens. Karachi Northern Bypass and collapsed portion of Sher Shah Bridge has completed and open for routine traffic. Shifting of electric poles/utilities was consulted with the WAPDA representatives Section-I from Muslimabad to Fawara Chowk, Abbottabad. The Committee directed to invite M/o Water and Power and WAPDA authorities in the next meeting.

4.         MNAs, Mr. Sarzameen Khan, Chaudhry Khalid Javaid Warraich, Ms. Maiza Hameed, Dr. Darshan, Mr. Nazir Ahmed Bughio, Mr. Ramesh Lal, Engr. Hamid-ul-Haq Khalil, Molana Qamar-ud-Din, Sahibzada Tariq Ullah, Ms. Naseema Hafeez Panezai, Engr. Usman Khan Tarakai, Ms. Shahjehan Muneer Mangrio and officials of the NHA attended the meeting.
