The Standing Committee on Defence Production paid its visit to Heavy Industries Taxila, today

The Standing Committee on Defence Production paid its visit today, the 9th January, 2017, 2016, to Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), Taxila, at 12:00 (noon) under the Chairmanship of Khawaja Sohail Mansoor, MNA.

The Committee once again appreciated the peerless performance of Gen. Raheel Sharif,  COAS (Retd). The Committee reiterated that his efforts for making Pakistan a peaceful and urbanized country were admirable. The years he has served in Pakistan Army have been marked by unsurpassed efficiency and excellence. The Committee said that his role being courageous commander of Pakistan Army was an inspiration for Pakistan Army and Pakistani nation. The Committee added that he has taken Pakistan Army to the leading edge of the world. The Committee extended their warm welcome to new Chief of Army Staff and shown its full confident on the capabilities of Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, COAS, being a new commander of Pak Army.

The Committee was briefed by the Chairman, Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) with regard to its creation and functioning. He said HIT was received in early seventies with the objective to rebuild T-59 tanks of Chinese origin. Presently it compromises of six production units, a support facility and a research & development centre. The Committee was further briefed by the Chairman, HIT regarding its mission and performance. The Committee appreciated the role of HIT for supporting Pak Defence Forces.

The Committee recommended that HIT Board should be provided autonomy for improvement of commercial activities etc.. The Committee recommended that first rights of refusal should be given to MoDP’s attached departments including HIT. The Committee once again decided that a meeting would be called shortly regarding procurement of equipments by the law enforcement agencies. The Committee also decided that all Chief Secretaries, IGPs, Secretary Interior, Secretary Finance, DG Rangers, IG FCs and all heads of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authorities would be called in said meeting.   

Meeting was attended by Mr. Muhammad Khan Daha, Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, Mr. Bhawan Das, Ms. Iffat Liaqat, Ms. Asyia Nasir, Mr. Bilal Rehman, MNAs, besides the senior officers of the Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP) and  HIT.
