NA Standing Committee on Water and Power meets

Standing Committee on Water and Power met under the Chairmanship of Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari, MNA to discuss the following Agenda:-

i)                    Confirmation of minutes of the meeting held on 25-07-2016.

ii)                  Comprehensive briefing by the Alternative Energy Development Board on the projects under taken by the Board from 2013 to enhance the production of electricity in the country, their date of commencement, present status and expected date of completion.

iii)                Present status of development Projects/Schemes of National Transmission Dispatch Company (NTDC).

iv)               Briefing by MEPCO on development Projects/Schemes, line losses, transformers and meters etc.



The Committee was briefly apprised by CEO, Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) about the different projects to enhance the production of electricity however, the Committee expressed its satisfaction over the ongoing projects and directed the ministry to ensure the timely completion of the projects in order to overcome the shortfall of the electricity.

The Committee appreciated the efforts of National Transmission Dispatch Company (NTDC) for commissioning different projects and improving infrastructure which would be helpful to increase the production of electricity from 22882 MW to 34090 MW by the end of year 2018. The Committee directed the ministry to more focus on FATA and tribal areas by initiated different projects of electricity to eliminate the factor of load shedding.

The Committee also appreciated the management of MEPCO for giving comprehensive briefing about the development projects / schemes. The Committee lauded the efforts of the MEPCO to improve the performance & efficiency by controlling the line losses and steps being taken by them to recover the outstanding amount from the defaulters. The Committee directed the MEPCO to complete all pending schemes of village electrification before June, 2017.

Mr. Abid Sher Ali, Minister for State briefly apprised the Committee about different power projects of (Hydel, Solar, Wind, Coal etc) which were initiated by the present Government to overcome the shortfall of the electricity.

MNAs, Mr. Muhammad Junaid Anwaar Chaudhry, Malik Ihtebar Khan, Rana Afzaal Hussain, Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, Rao Muhammad Amjal Khan, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Malik Ghulam Rabbani Khar, Mr. Junaid Akbar, Mr. Salim Rehman, Syed Waseem Hussain, Maulana Muhammad Gohar Shah, Dr. Syed Ghazi Ghulab and Sahibzada Muhammad Yaqub attended the meeting, besides officials of the Ministry.
