NA Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication Meets

Islamabad, 11th August 2016: The 21st meeting of the Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication was held under the Chairmanship of Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Safdar, MNA.

2.      The meeting commenced with the recitation from the Holy Quran. The Chairman welcomed all the participants. The Committee decided to proceed with the given agenda.

3.     Agenda item No. (i) Confirmation of minutes of last meeting held on 04.03.2016. The Committee unanimously confirmed the Minutes of its previous meeting held on 04.03.2016.

4.     Agenda item No. (ii) Calling Attention Notice No. 40, moved by Mr. Omer Ayub Khan, ex-MNA, regarding the issues of Telephone Industries of Pakistan (TIP), Haripur. Hon. Minister concerned briefed the Committee about the history of Telephone Industries of Pakistan (TIP), Haripur.  The Committee discussed the issue in detail and directed the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication to take necessary steps pertaining TIP, Haripur along with stipulate time till 30th August, 2016   i.e. to disconnect all utility connections of illegal occupants of the Houses of Colony Board in Haripur, who were not paying their utility bills. Further, it has been directed that stern action be taken to vacate the houses of Colony Board from illegal occupants. Furthermore, the Committee directed to the Ministry give time frame to the current owner of the PTCL to pay the remaining payable amount of the state; if the current owner failed, PTCL be auctioned again in open market.

5.      The Committee did not take up any other agenda. 

6.      The Hon. MNAs/Member Major (Retd) Tahir Iqbal, Mian Muhammad Farooq, Ms. Shazia Mubashar, Ms. Farhana Qamar, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Mr. Amjid Ali Khan, Engineer Dawar Khan Kundi, Syed Ali Raza Abidi attended the meeting besides the Minister and Secretary for Information Technology and Telecommunication and the Chairman PTA along with their staff.
