NA Standing Committee on Human Rights Meets

Islamabad, May 27th 2016: The 5th meeting of the Standing Committee on Human Rights was held today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Babar Nawaz Khan, MNA.

2.  The meeting started with the recitation from Holy Quran and the Committee welcomed Mr. Kamran Machael, as a Minster for Human Rights. Thereafter, the Committee decided to proceed with the given agenda.

3.  Agenda Item No. i; “Confirmation of minutes of last meeting held on 12-05-2016”. The Committee unanimously confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting held on 12-05-2016.

4.  Agenda item No. ii; “To discuss the Humanitarian Crises at Thar”. The Committee disagreed with the proposals of Sindh Government those being launched in the area of Thar i.e. Rainy Dams, Solar Tube wells etc. The Committee suggested that Fedral and Provincial Governments to make joint efforts for permanent solution of this issue. Further, suggested that clean drinking water should be supplied through canal or pipes, same as the water supply system launched from Khanpur Dam to Rawalpindi/Islamabad. The Committee decided to take visit of the affected areas of Thar in the upcoming month of July, 2016 and desired that the MNAs, MPAs and concerned District officers of the area would join the Committee during the visit. The Committee also discussed the issue of remaining payable salaries of the Lady Health Visitors.

5.  Agenda item No. iii; “Actions taken with regards to the Honorable Members bitten by the mice in the in Parliament Lodges”. The Committee directed the CDA concerned officer to take action against eradication of mice in the Parliaments Lodges on priority basis and submit their report in the next meeting of the Committee along with satisfactory confirmation comments on Letter Head of all Parliamentarians residing in the Parliament Lodges.   

6.  Agenda item No. iv; To explain the action (s) taken so far with regard to burning of an innocent girl at Abbottabad”. The Committee appreciated the efforts made by Abbottabad Police Force to arrest the culprits. Then, Hon. Chairman announced Rupees Ten Thousand as reward money to the Police team who took quick action against the culprits. Further, the Committee directed the Abbottabad Police to arrest the remaining culprit as soon as possible.

7.  The Committee decided to take up the remaining agenda in its next meeting.

8.  The Hon. Members/MNAs Sahibzada Muhammad Yaqub, Sayed Essa Nori, Begum Tahira Bukhari, Ms. Farhana Qamar, Ms. Phyllis Azeem, Ms. Surriya Asghar, Ms. Kiran Haider, Ms. Asiya Naz Tanoli, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Ms. Amra Khan, Dr. Shazia Sobia, Ms. Musarat Rafique Mahesar, Ms. Munaza Hassan, Mr. Kanwar Naveed Jameel, Ms. Kishwer Zehra, Ms. Aliya Kamran Murtaza besides the Minister and Secretary for Human Rights and their other staff, Chief Secretary, Sindh and his staff, Commissioner and D.I.G Hazara Division with their staff, Acting Chairman CDA and his staff and Members from the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) attended the meeting.
