Standing Committee On Industries & Production Meets

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Industries and Production was held under the Chairmanship of Mr. Asad Umar, MNA in Parliament House for briefing on Airbags and Antilock Breaking System (ABS) in Automobiles in Pakistan, Stoppage of supply of sugar to Franchise Utility Stores and implementation status on the recommendations of the SC w.e.f 13-01-2014 to 27-07-2015.

The Committee thoroughly discussed above mentioned issues and suggested that internationally accepted minimum safety features like Airbags and Antilock Breaking System (APS) must be made mandatory upon all automobile manufacturers and should be installed in all variants available to the consumers.

Regarding the stoppage of supply of sugar to the Franchise Utility Stores, the Committee suggested to the Government,  not to give subsidy on the sugar until or unless the smooth supply of sugar to Franchise Utility Stores. The S/C further directed to the M/oI&P to make a plan within the framework of rules and regulations, how can made the purchase and supply of the sugar to the Franchise Utility Stores on time.

The S/C showed grave concerned over the shut down of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) and to revamp / to make it viable and suggested to call the Chairman Privatization Commission in the next meeting and also asked M/oI&P to ensure release of salaries to the employees of Pakistan Steel Mills.

For further follow up, regarding the previous recommendations made by the Standing Committee w.e.f 13-01-2014 to 27-07-2015, the S/C directed to the M/oI&P to invite all the relevant ministries/ departments in the next meeting.
