Parliamentary Interaction To Strengthen Pak-Italy Bilateral Relations: Says NA Speaker

Islamabad June 15, 2015: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Mr. Benedetto Detta Vedova, Italian Vice Foreign Minister have agreed to intensify parliamentary interaction for bringing Pakistan and Italy, more closer. They believed that interaction between parliamentarians and business communities from either side would add substance to the existing bilateral relations. This was agreed during a meeting between Speaker National Assembly and Italian Vice Foreign Minister in Parliament House, this afternoon.

The Speaker said that Pakistan attaches immense importance to its relations with Italy and strongly desires to take them to new heights through active engagement of parliamentarians and business communities of both the countries. He said that their active interaction would help exploring new avenues of mutual cooperation. The Speaker expressed his satisfaction on the pace of political engagement from either side.

The Speaker informed the Italian Minister about the structure of the present parliament. He said that the present parliament consists of progressive forces and were on the same page on all issues of national importance. Referring to the peace in the region, the Speaker said that Pakistan believes in peace and good relations with its neighbors and wanted resolution of all contentious issues through peaceful means which was imperative for the progress and prosperity in the region. He said that terrorism had caused colossal loss to the economy of Pakistan besides loss of precious lives of innocent citizens and courageous law enforcers. He said that government launched Zarb-e-Azb Operation with consensus of all political forces in the country which has successfully dismantled terrorist networks.

He suggested for arranging interaction between Pakistani and Italian business communities through Italian Mission in Islamabad for exploring possibilities of cooperation and joint investment in trade, manufacturing, power, infrastructure development and other various sectors. He said that Italian investors could take advantage of immense potential in Pakistan besides contributing in economic development going to take place after the Pak-China economic corridor project takeoff.

Italian Vice Foreign Minister Mr. Benedetto Detta Vedova said that the purpose of his instant visit to Pakistan was to have a dialogue with the Pakistani political leadership and business community to explore ways and means to enhance bilateral and trade relations. He said that his government also attaches importance to its relations with Pakistan. He praised the resilience of Pakistan nation which has gone through decades old insurgency. He assured his government’s unwavering support for economic and infrastructure development in Pakistan. He agreed that Italian investors would certainly be part of the economic activity in Pakistan to be generated in near future.
