NA Speaker meets Sri Lankan President

Islamabad: April 6, 2015; Speaker, National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq called on Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena in Islamabad, today. The meeting was held in cordial atmosphere where a number of issues of common interest between the two countries and ways and means of strengthening relations, were discussed.
The Speaker said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka are historically bonded in a relationship of trust, mutual respect and deep friendship which is manifested at all the phases of their history. Pakistan is committed to further deepen the relations through enhancing parliamentary and economic cooperation with Sri Lanka, he added.
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena acknowledged the sentiments of the Speaker and said that his government also attaches immense importance to its relations with Pakistan and wants to further cement them through cooperation in diverse fields. He said that opportunities and potential for mutual cooperation between two countries are immense and very promising; therefore, Sri Lanka would continue strengthen it trade and commercial relations.
He recognized the support extended by the government of Pakistan during Sri Lankan war against terrorism and said that Pakistan’s unflinching support during the three decade internal conflict has immensely helped in the elimination of terrorism from Sri Lanka.
