Sri Lankan High Commissioner Meets Speaker NA

Islamabad: October 14, 2014; Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka are historically bonded in a relationship of trust, mutual respect and deep friendship which is manifested at all the phases of their histories. The Speaker was talking to the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Air Chief Marshal (R) Jayalath Weerakkody who called on him in Parliament House, this afternoon.
 
While talking to the Sri Lankan High Commissioner, the Speaker said that decades old friendship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is time-tested and all-weather friendship. Pakistan is committed to further deepen the relations through enhancing parliamentary and economic cooperation with Sri Lanka, he added.
 
The Speaker said that the Government and people of Pakistan greatly value its relations with Sri Lanka in the regional and bilateral context. He said that friendship and cooperation between both the countries serve the fundamental interests of the two countries and people, and contribute to peace, stability and development in the region and beyond. He also underlined the need for more frequent interactions between Parliamentary Friendship bodies of the two countries.
 

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka Air Chief Marshal (R) Jayalath Weerakkody acknowledged the sentiments of the Speaker and said that his government also attaches immense importance to its relations with Pakistan and wants to further cement them through cooperation in diverse fields. He said that opportunities and potential for mutual cooperation between two countries are immense and very promising; therefore, Bangladeshi investors are keen to benefit from it.
