NA Speaker Plants sapling at Parliament House

Islamabad: August 6, 2014; Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker National Assembly planted sapling Magnolia Grandiflora at Parliament House on Wednesday evening. He prayed for the security and solidarity of the country and welfare of the people of Pakistan, after planting the sapling.

Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said that a greener environment is vital for a healthy nation. He highlighted the importance of trees as an essential part of our lives and for maintaining equilibrium in the ecosystem. He said that deforestation is one of the major reasons for increased pollution, irregular water flow and soil erosion control.

He said that in view of critical role of trees, concerted efforts are required by all the stakeholders, including farmers, civil society, private sector, students, media and all others to raise awareness about the importance of tress and to enhance the tree cover in the country for mitigating the adverse impacts of environmental degradation and for providing a sustained renewable source of livelihood.

“Pakistan is blessed with plenty of rains and fertile soil, and therefore we should plant trees which are fast growing, he added. The Speaker directed CDA to devise an effective strategy to involve general public apart from NGOs and civil society in this campaign. He further said that an awareness campaign should also be launched to motivate the people in this regard. A large numbers of parliamentarians and senior officers of the National Assembly Secretariat were also present on the occasion.
