Press Release - Standing Committee on Ports and Shipping

Islamabad, the June 27, 2014; A meeting of the Standing Committee on Ports and Shipping was held in Committee Room No.2, Parliament House, Islamabad today, under the Chairmanship of Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, MNA. The agenda of the meeting was as under:-

i.    Detailed briefing of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC).
ii.    Issues of Re-Employment of Retired Officers in Pakistan Shipping Corporation (PNSC).

2.    The Committee was told that PNSC is the only organ of Ministry of Ports and Shipping undertaking business operations in an internationally competitive environment, competing even for transportation of Pakistan imports and exports, thus earning most needed foreign exchange for the country. The PNSC is engaged in three sea transportation trades i.e. Dry Bulk Cargo, Liquid Bulk Cargo (Crude Oil and Petroleum Products) and Slot and NVOCC Services.
 
3.    The Standing Committee lauded the efforts of PNSC for making it a profitable organization and endeavoring to make it a market leader in the region. The Standing Committee unanimously recommended that Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) may make all its trading business with PNSC and it was also recommended that PNSC may also be included in the LNG Policy of the Country.

4.    The meeting was attended by the Members namely Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, Chudhary Hamid Hameed, Ch. Salman Haneef Khan, Mehar Ishtiaq Ahmad, Ms. Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Ms. Shaheen Shafiq, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, Mr. Khalil George, Mr. Nabeel Ahmed Gabol, Mr. Muhammad Jamal-ud-Din and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ports & Shipping, and other senior Officers from the Ministry.
