Secretary General in 1981 and Amir (Head) in 1995; still holds that position.

Played key role in organizing/leading the Movement of Restoration of Democracy (MRD)
during 1981-1988 against the dictatorship of General Zia-ul-Haq.

Remained in jail/protective custody for 6-7 years on different occasions during
1974, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985

Elected MNA in 1988, 1993, 2002 and 2008; elected Chairman of Standing
Committee on Foreign Affairs, National Assembly of Pakistan in 1994.

Contested for the slot of Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2002 and secured the
second highest votes.

Elected Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan on 25th
May, 2004 and continued till October, 2007.
